The Story Behind The Photo
On a cloudy early spring day along the shores of Lake Erie, I stumbled upon a frog that appears to have recently awakened from winter's slumber, within the safety of the nearby marsh. Unknowingly, it ventured toward the water's edge. Sluggish and groggy from hibernation, it appeared to be struggling against the sudden shift in environment and the cold, lapping waves of Lake Erie.

Realizing its precarious position, I immediately set down my camera gear. Gently scooping up the frog, I carried it across the beach to the safety of the marsh's calm water edge—a sanctuary of fallen autumn leaves and grasses. There, it was allowed to rest and recover.

In this print titled "First Frog of Spring," you see a frog resting along the marsh's edge, still awaking from it's slumber, catching it's breath. Photographed with a medium format, Mamiya RZ67 camera, this photograph serves as a reminder that early spring carries hidden dangers as animals wake to environments they have not yet fully re-adapted to.
